Hello everyone, Im looking to purchase 2 or 3 of a single hard drive to raid together and was having some trouble deciding which to get.

I think its between:

Caviar Blue WD5000AAKS
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0350291

Spinpoint F3
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0340804

Barracuda 7200.12
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0331720

Im looking for drives that are fast and reliable and will be very fast in RAID. Im doing some HD capturing and I need the read/write speeds of the RAID to be pretty high.

The caviar blue is the cheapest, but Ive heard that the F3 is the fastest. Im hoping to hear what you guys think.

Thanks!

Consider SSD before tossing money at the same 2 or 3 drives.

I did, but then I realized that for HD video, SSD's dont have enough space.

Couldent afford them, I got the F3's instead. They work great so far [knock on wood] and I can hit ALMOST 400mb/s write speeds!

NO. SSD's in Raid don't support trim and wear out fast. Well a few do, but they are few and far between.
Samsung F3's are what I woulda reccomended. They are absolutely great drives, the 1tb I have in my htpc works great especially for storage.
Personally the only thing I'd get an ssd for is a boot drive, otherwise I don't trust em much. What kind of budget do you have for this? What kind of RAID array did you end up putting them in?

I hate SSD's, expensive, small, and really for most uses no real world difference in performance. My WD Caviar Black 500GB and Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 High Performance 1.5TB drives are perfect.
